Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency in women. With proper nutrition and special recipes against iron deficiency, it is possible to keep your iron levels in balance.

Recipes against iron deficiency: Ferruginous diet

Recurring iron deficiency in women is usually caused by menstruation. To exclude other possible serious causes, such as an ulcer, you should consult with medical staff about your symptoms. This is the only way to know the cause of the deficiency and to undertake the necessary measures in its treatment. Those who actually suffer only from mild iron deficiency, they do not need to pick up the high-dose additive preparation immediately. In such cases, you can rise the iron levels with a simple  change of diet. However, this depends on the right food combination. Iron may be poorly absorbed from the food. Vitamin C supports the natural absorption. Therefore, you should sprinkle some lemon juice over each meal or drink a large glass of orange juice with your meal, from time to time.

Nutrition Tips in iron deficiency

Basically, meat and fish are particularly considered iron-rich foods. A steak flavored with fresh lemon and sea salt, in combination with lens or radish salad with paprika – that is the iron bomb. But even with iron deficiency, you should always follow the rule of thumb that says – eat meat no more than three times a week. Beetroot or broccoli are not vegetable alternatives just for vegetarians’, they can serve as a soufflé or stewed meal addition to anyone. Beetroot is actually available as a juice. Those who already want to fight iron deficiency but also do not want to give up the snacks while watching the TV or while reading, should prefer salted pumpkin seeds or sweet, dried apricots to chocolate.

Fast helpers against iron deficiency

In addition to tried and true concentrates of herbs and vegetable juices, drugstores and pharmacies offer a wide range of food complementary products – a wide spectrum up to the famous effervescent tablet. Natural products from the Spirulina algae or mineral salts are also recommended herbal mixtures for people with a slight iron deficiency. Special iron-fortified juices and soft drinks can also be found in supermarkets and health food stores. But be careful, go to the doctor and check your iron status periodically, because too much iron can lead to symptoms of poisoning, and is only very slowly removed by the body.
